My Sister Destroyed My Relationship Because She Couldn’t Have Her One True Love, So I Made Her Watch Him Fall For Me Instead. My Younger Sister…

My sister destroyed my relationship after years of sabotaging other people’s happiness, and I never imagined the one person I’d tried hardest to protect from her would become her next target.

My sister destroyed my relationship, but the betrayal didn’t begin with my fiancé. It began years earlier, when my younger sister Priya decided that losing the man she called her one true love gave her permission to interfere with everyone else’s happiness. Since she was nineteen, I’d watched her turn other people’s relationships into opportunities for attention, jealousy, and drama. Whenever someone confronted her, she returned to the same heartbreaking story about a man named Dev. She claimed she’d lost the person she was destined to be with, and somehow that became her explanation for everything she did afterward. Our family listened sympathetically, but I had seen enough to recognize the pattern. Priya wasn’t simply struggling with heartbreak. She had developed a habit of making sure nobody around her could enjoy the happiness she believed she’d been denied.

Dev was someone Priya had met at a rooftop party before her sophomore year of college. They kissed once on a fire escape, and he never contacted her afterward. That single encounter became the foundation of a love story she continued telling for years. Whenever she behaved badly, she blamed the pain of losing him. The more dramatic her behavior became, the more our parents seemed determined to comfort her rather than question what she’d done.

Her closest friend Bella learned this painfully. During spring break, Priya stayed at Bella’s family lake house after her own plans fell through. By the end of the visit, Bella’s boyfriend was sending Priya affectionate messages late at night. Then Bella discovered them together on the dock. Instead of apologizing, Priya invoked her supposed lost soulmate, insisting Bella couldn’t understand her suffering.

Bella ended their friendship immediately. But the incident wasn’t enough to change Priya’s behavior. At our aunt’s second wedding, she arrived in an expensive backless gown, drank several glasses of champagne, and approached the groom near the coat closet. She repeatedly told him that his eyes reminded her of someone she’d lost. Fortunately, he laughed off her advances and walked away.

When our parents heard about the incident, Priya cried about how painful it was to watch happy couples celebrating together. Instead of addressing her behavior, our mother arranged a mountain wellness retreat to help her recover. It was another example of how Priya could cause trouble and still receive everyone’s sympathy.

By the time I met Ari, I understood exactly what she was capable of. I wanted a peaceful relationship without constantly worrying about my sister’s interference. So I kept Ari away from our family group chat, prevented Priya from viewing my social media updates, and explained that my sister was going through a difficult period.

For almost three years, those precautions worked. Ari and I built a comfortable life together. We moved into the same home, adopted a scruffy rescue cat, and enjoyed the quiet routines of a relationship that felt safe. Eventually, we became engaged.

We planned a small wedding with only the people we trusted. I thought I’d successfully protected the happiest part of my life from Priya’s destructive habits. But at my father’s retirement dinner, I made one careless mistake: I mentioned the engagement.

Priya immediately became interested. She hugged me tightly, congratulated me, and asked when she could finally meet the mysterious man I’d kept hidden from her.

Ten days later, Ari showed me his phone. Priya had tracked him down using a fake social media account filled with someone else’s photographs. Her messages complimented his appearance and asked whether he believed in second chances. We laughed at how obvious her approach was, and Ari blocked the account while I watched.

I felt relieved. After everything I’d witnessed, I believed I’d stopped her before she could interfere again.

But I was about to discover how dangerously wrong that assumption was.
