Wife Started Going Out Every Week With Her Single And Divorced Friends Who Convinced Her I Don’t Appreciate Her, So I Had My Friends Follow Her On…

When my wife started going out every week, I tried to convince myself she simply needed more time with friends, until the changes in her behavior made that explanation harder and harder to believe.

My wife started going out every week with a new group of single and divorced friends, and gradually, I began feeling as though the woman I’d spent ten years with was becoming someone I barely recognized. I’m thirty-five, she’s thirty-two, and we’ve been married for seven years after being together for ten. Thankfully, we don’t have children. Over the past few months, Jen—not her real name—made some new friends who seemed to have a cynical attitude toward relationships, and ever since she began spending more time with them, something between us started changing.

At first, the differences were difficult to identify. Jen began going out more often for girls’ nights, which didn’t bother me by itself. But an occasional happy hour quickly became an almost weekly trip to a bar or club. She started coming home late, sometimes buzzed and sometimes outright drunk. She used to text me whenever she expected to be out especially late. Now, I’d either hear nothing or receive vague messages like, “don’t wait up.”

The distance wasn’t limited to her nights out. Jen became less affectionate both physically and emotionally. We used to spend evenings together, even if all we did was watch Netflix or talk about our day. Now she was usually out with her friends or glued to her phone talking to them. Whenever I suggested a date night or simply cooking something together, she brushed me off. I kept telling myself not to jump to conclusions. Maybe she was simply going through a more social phase and needed time with other women.

Then specific warning signs became harder to ignore.

Jen suddenly started dressing up more whenever she went to the gym or met her friends. There were new outfits, extra makeup, and more effort even for supposedly casual drinks or workouts.

Her behavior with her phone changed too.

We’d always used each other’s phones casually, whether to play music or look something up. Suddenly, hers had a new passcode and rarely left her hand. If I even glanced toward the screen, she’d tilt it away.

A few times, I walked into a room and watched her abruptly stop texting.

Then I overheard part of a FaceTime conversation with one of her friends: something about how she “deserved it” if I wasn’t giving her attention. Jen immediately shushed her friend when she realized I could hear.

That sentence stayed with me.

I knew I hadn’t been the most attentive husband recently. Work had overwhelmed me, stress affected my mood, and our intimacy had declined. I could admit my part in that.

But I had never mistreated her, and I couldn’t understand why relationship problems would justify looking elsewhere for attention.

Then another name started appearing in our conversations.

Chris.

He was a guy from Jen’s gym, and suddenly she was mentioning him regularly—what he’d bench-pressed, a protein shake recipe he’d recommended, little details about him that hadn’t existed in our conversations before.

When I finally asked who Chris was, Jen immediately became defensive.

She insisted he was simply a guy from her workout class.

I dropped the subject, but something still felt wrong.

A week later, I arrived home early and found Jen preparing for another girls’ night. She was dressed like she was heading somewhere far more glamorous than the low-key lounge she’d described: high heels, short dress, full makeup, and perfume she normally saved for special occasions.

I jokingly asked whether she was secretly going on a date.

She snapped that I was insecure.

Then she told me her friends thought I didn’t appreciate her anymore.

When I questioned what she meant, she said I’d been emotionally and physically unavailable.

And then, as my wife started going out every week and our marriage continued slipping further away from what it had been, she said something I couldn’t shake:

Maybe if I paid her a little more attention, she wouldn’t have to seek it elsewhere.
